Here is a non-circulating set from Darfur, the currently disenfranchised western region of the Sudan. The coins include a 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, and 500 dinars. Each one depicts an animal from the region. The larger denominations have interesting shapes, and the 500 dinars is a bimetallic. A very attractive set with a limited mintage. |

Cambodia 4 coin set 1994, KM#92-95, BU, $5.50 From the kingdom of Cambodia, this set includes a 50, 100, 200 and 500 riels. The 500 riels is bimetallic. Catalog value is $8.80 in BU.

French Indo-China 1942, 1/4 cent, KM#25, VF, $8.00 This is a zinc piece made shortly before Vietnam gained its independence from France. Dated 1942, this is the most affordable piece of the four year series. Catalog value is $15 in VF. |

Kazakhstan 5 coin set 1993, KM#1-5, BU, $5.00 Formerly the southwestern part of the U.S.S.R., this nation gained its independence in 1991, and is currently a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States. These are the first coins issued for this new nation, including the 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 tyin. The obverse has the coat of arms. Catalog value for this set is $7.75. |

North Korea 7 coin set 2002, KM#191-197, BU, $9.00 Like all the remaining communist nation, North Korea produces a lot of commemorative coinage. This set features vintage and modern modes of transportation. Catalog value is normally $12 for the set. |

Libya 6 coin set 1979, KM#18-23, BU, $25 Libya first gained independence from foreign rule in 1951. This series was issued by the Socialist People’s Republic, and feature a horse and rider on the obverse. The reverse shows the denomination, which include the 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 dirhams. Current value is $32 for the set. |

Trengganu 1 pitis 1793-1808, KM#2.1, Fine, $15.00 These crude tin coins are from the state of Trengganu in eastern Malaysia. They are uniface, and have an Arabic inscription. There is a lot of variety in these pieces. This is a hard to find coin for those “one per country” collectors. |

Mongolia 4 coins set 1994, KM122-125, BU, $6.00 Here is a four coin set from the State of Mongolia. Included are the 20, 50, 100, and 200 tugrik. The obverse is the same on all denominations, featuring the Soembo coat of arms. Catalog value is $8.75. |

Slovenia 9 coin set 1992-2000, $14.00 Formerly a part of Yugoslavia, Slovenia gained its independence in 1991. This is a 9 coin circulating set, all featuring local wildlife. The combined catalog value totals $19. |

Tajikistan 5 coin set 2001, KM#2-6, BU, $5.00 (above) Tajikistan 3 somoni 1994, Dushanbe, KM#10, BU, $6.00 (upper right) Tajikistan 5 somoni 1994, Constitution, KM#11, BU, $7.00 (right) Another former Soviet territory, Tajikistan is now a member of the CIS. It was several years before they produced their own currency, and the first circulating coinage was made in 2001. Above is the 5 to 50 drams circulating set. The upper right pic shows the 3 somoni bimetallic commemorating the 80th anniversary of the city of Dushanbe, and the right image shows the 5 somoni commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Tajik constitution.

Transnistria 5 coin set 2000-2002, KM#1-5, BU, $3.50 Occupying a strip of land between Moldova and the Ukraine, this region is struggling for independence. Production of their own currency is one method for a fledgling nation to assert its autonomy. This set includes a 1 to 50 kopeek. All are dated 2000, except the 25 kopeek, which was first minted in 2002.

Uzbekistan 1-10 som 3 coin set 1997, KM#8-10, BU, $4.00 Uzbekistan 1-50 som 5 coin set 1999-2001, KM#11-15, BU, $10.00 Uzbekistan 100 som 2004, KM#17, BU, $18.00 This is another former satellite nation of the U.S.S.R., and current member of the CIS. The image to the upper left depicts the 1, 5, and 10 som from 1997. The lower left is a later series including a 25 and 50 som, and below is a 100 som from 2004. All are prices way below catalog values.

Yugoslavia 4 coin set 1938, KM18-20, 22, BU, $20 This nation has seen a lot of restructuring over the past century. This 1938 set was issued at the inception of the unified kingdom. Here is a nice BU set at a reasonable price (catalog value is $27).
